Paul Chan, associate professor emeritus of chemical engineering, was named interim chair of the Chemical Engineering Department by Dean Elizabeth Loboa. The appointment became effective Jan. 1.

Chan worked for the University of Missouri College of Engineering for 35 years before stepping away from full-time faculty duties and accepting an emeritus position last summer. He served for many years as the Chemical Engineering Department’s director of undergraduate studies and spent a decade as chair of the College of Engineering’s scholarship committee in addition to his classroom duties.

Chan replaced Baolin Deng, who remains on the faculty as a C.W. LaPierre Professor of civil and environmental engineering and is director of the Missouri Water Resources Research Center.

“I look forward to working with Paul and believe his years of experience within the department will enable him to serve the department and college as an effective leader,” Loboa said.
