Grant allows continuation of key biomass research

Ron McGarvey, assistant professor of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering, and Francisco Aguilar, associate professor of Forestry, recently received a three-year, nearly $500,000 National Institute of Food and Agriculture grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to continue research into the socioeconomic and environmental implications of growth in woody biomass use for biopower.

The duo’s previous research into use of woody biomass dealt with the most efficient ways for states producing woody biomass to partner with states using woody biomass in power plants to keep costs down and raise energy efficiency. Read more about the team’s research in this area here.
