Nanoenergetic Materials and Applied Research
Current research of Rajagopalan Thiruvengadathan, is focused on the development of nanoenergetic materials with tunable and enhanced combustion performance for various defense applications such as green primers for propellant applications, microthrusters and gas-generators. I am also involved in the investigation of various fundamental aspects related to the scaled-up production of nanoenergetic materials. These include (a) preventing phase separation through the use of molecular linkers/surface functional groups, (b) safety evaluation, (c) controlling the sensitivity to electrostatic discharge sensitivity, impact and friction with polymer coating and (d) sustaining the combustion characteristics of coated materials relative to uncoated nanothermites
