High School Weekend
Experience Mizzou
“What’s it really like, being an engineer at Mizzou?”
That’s the several hundred thousand dollar question, but all those brochures, pamphlets and recruiting soft sells won’t really give you a taste of the reality of engineering life here. You want a good, satisfactory answer to your question before you commit – exactly the kind of mindset an engineer needs.
So the Mizzou Engineering Student Council hosts a high school weekend every year.
You’ll work in groups on design challenges and get some prime networking opportunity with Mizzou professors. But of course, for the nitty-gritty experience of an MU student you’ll be staying overnight in the freshman engineering dorms and eating your meals in the dining halls. (And for bonus experience, you’ll be sent on wild goose chases through the maze-like Lafferre Hall, where engineering students spend much of their time – trust us, the acquired knowledge of these hallways will be invaluable.)
The best people to ask about what it’s really like are current engineering students, and you’ll get plenty of facetime with them – student ambassadors, student organization leaders, and competition team representatives. They can advise you on what doesn’t make it into the brochures – recommendations, inside information, what to expect, or, simply, whether you should join the concrete canoe or hydrogen car team.
