Degree Plan Outline

This checklist is one guide to the courses you’ll take. It can become complicated, so plan to spend some time with your advisor to sort it out.

      There are 2 tracks of courses that fulfill the humanities/fine arts requirements:

      • 1) Conventional Track (9 Credit Hours)
        • Course category must be HFA to fulfill MAE requirements
        • Must be split between at least 2 departments.
        • A maximum of 3 credit hours is allowed for skills classes.
        • No foreign language courses may be used.
      • 2) Alternative Foreign Language Track
        • Minimum of 12 college transcripted hours in a single foreign language
        • Completion of the Foreign Language track also satisfies the upper level Gen Ed requirement.
    • At least 3 credit hours of the above courses must be at the 2000 level or above to satisfy the upper level Gen Ed Requirement.

In addition to the requirement of all degree requirements with a minimum GPA of 2.0 for all courses taken at MU, the College has established the following additional requirement for the BSME degree:

  • All candidates for the B.S. in Mechanical Engineering will be required to have a GPA of at least 2.0 based on all the courses with an Engineering designation (i.e., MAE, ENGR, IMSE, etc.). This requirement includes all equivalent engineering courses transferred from other campuses of the UM system
  • All students are required to take 2 Writing Intensive (WI) courses before they graduate.
