Celebrating “E-Week”

Engineering students traditionally proclaim their college pride with creative pranks during E-Week. E-Week pranksters kicked off the 2006 celebration by placing the College of Engineering’s emblem — a St. Patrick’s Day shamrock — in front of MU’s Ellis Library as well as elsewhere across campus. | Students and faculty are invited every year to compete in a catapult-making contest to see who can more accurately fling an egg into a frying pan 70 feet away. This year’s first-place egg catapult team, “The J Squad and Dustin,” chose an army theme and dressed the part. Team members included students Joel Haus (left) and Gina Belarde (right), as well as Jesse Simpson and Dustin Sullivan (not pictured). Photo by Melinda Sheffler | ![]() |

A larger-than-life E-Week prank debuted at the Quad columns on March 15, reflecting the legend that credits St. Patrick with “engineering” the removal of snakes from Ireland. This particular snake also found its way into the MU law school a few years ago. The law school has a long-standing rivalry with MU’s engineering college, and their respective students have traded pranks several times through the years. Photo by Melinda Sheffler |

Several students, as well as alumni, were awarded knighthood by St. Patrick, escorted here by Caleb Rich, chairman of the St. Pat’s Board, and Ashley Stieferman, president of the Engineers’ Club. Gina Belarde, a senior studying electrical and computer engineering, kissed the “Blarney Stone” and received her knighthood. Photo by Melinda Sheffler |

MU students Annie Walsh and Kelly Morefield enjoyed green punch and conversation March 18 at the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) Green Tea, a tradition recently revived by the group. Engineering research posters were on display during this year’s tea and the Citation of Merit luncheon that preceded it. Photo by Melinda Sheffler |
