  • Tissue engineering

Education

  • Ph.D., M.S. and B.S. from the University of Washington
Matthew Bernards joined the Chemical Engineering Department at the University of Missouri in 2008 after finishing his Ph.D. at the University of Washington. His research is focused on understanding interactions at biomolecular interfaces. The first aspect of this work is developing molecular level control of surface chemistries to promote the interactions between surfaces and specific molecules (individual proteins and cell types). The second aspect of this work is developing chemistries that prevent all non-specific interactions between surfaces and proteins, cells and/or bacteria. The successful integration of these two concepts will lead to the next generation of biomimetic scaffolding materials for tissue engineering applications.
