Sam A. Kiger, Associate Dean of Engineering, is the C.W. LaPierre professor and director of the National Center for Explosion Resistant Design in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at the University of Missouri. Kiger, an internationally recognized leader and expert in explosion effects and blast resistant structural design, recently took the helm of a newly established Center for Transportation Security. Before joining MU, Kiger worked for more than 15 years for the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center and is the principal author of the U.S. Army’s “Fundamentals of Protective Construction.” Kiger currently is a member of the National Research Council Committee for Oversight and Assessment of Blast Effects and Related Research, and a registered professional engineer in Missouri. Kiger’s research has been funded by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the U.S. Navy, the Air Force Research Center, the Defense Threat Reduction Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy.
