Mustafa Y. Sir is an assistant professor in the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering at the University of Missouri. Sir’s research interests currently include modeling decision making under uncertainty, and developing algorithmic and computational methods needed to effectively (and practically) determine good (if not “optimal”) solutions. His experience to date has been in applying operations research techniques to optimize radiation therapy, which is a common form of cancer treatment, considering uncertainties caused by daily setup procedures and organ motion. Before coming to Missouri, Sir worked as a research and development analyst at the Progressive Casualty Insurance Company in Cleveland, Ohio. He is a member of the Institute for Operations Research and Management Science (INFORMS) and the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM).
