Carlos Sun is an associate professor in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department and an adjunct faculty member in the Electrical and Computer Engineering department at the University of Missouri. He has won the Excellence in Education Award presented by MU’s division of student affairs. Sun works with the Smart Work Zone Deployment Initiative, an effort aimed at developing better ways of controlling traffic through work zones. He also is a member of the Transportation Research Board, a division of the National Research Council that seeks to promote innovation and progress in transportation through research. Sun’s background encompasses industrial experience, having worked as a design engineer for both GMM Research Corp. and Airshow Inc., as well as academic experience at the University of Southern California and Rowan University in New Jersey. He has received funding from the Missouri Department of Transportation, the National Science Foundation, the U.S. Department of Education, the Kansas Department of Transportation, the Federal Highway Administration, the Delaware River Port Authority and the California Department of Transportation’s Partners for Advanced Transit and Highways program. He is a registered professional engineer in Missouri.
