Vitaly Gruzdev Research Assistant Professor
Dr. Vitaly Gruzdev is an assistant research professor in the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department at the University of Missouri. He received his Ph.D. in 2000 from S. I. Vavilov State optical institute in St. Petersburg, Russia. Gruzdev has won the ISSEP’s Post-Graduate Award and stipend three times, the Best Oral Presentation Award at 35th Annual Symposium on Optical Materials for High Power Lasers. He is a member of the International Society for Optical Engineering (SPIE) and the Optical Society of America. He is a co-chair of SPIE Laser Damage Symposium (2009 – present). His experimental research spans from femtosecond laser-induced chemistry of biological molecules to ultra-fast laser-nanoparticle interactions and non-thermal micro/nano-structuring of solid materials. His major interests in theoretical simulations are focused on laser excitation of electronics in solids and nanoparticles and related processes of energy absorption and transfer.
