In 2010, the MU College of Engineering launched a Recent Alumni Development (RAD) Board. The effort, intended to keep young alums — those who graduated within the last 10 years — connected to MU and involved in the future of their alma mater, is moving forward in a number of areas.

One of the group’s early initiatives has been to fund an endowed scholarship, for which a total of $25,000 must be raised.

“Our goal is to develop a fully endowed scholarship that is granted annually,” said board member Joe Carlson, profiled in the matching gifts story, for his gift to the scholarship. “We’ve done some fundraising on the board, but are ready to expand giving to the broader young alumni population. It’s a good way to give back and to get a little more involved.”

Two additional projects the board is working on include a mentor program and curriculum advice for the various departments from the perspective of those who have recently entered the workforce.

“We’re trying to be a resource to make Mizzou engineers more marketable,” Carlson said.

RAD meets two times each year to share information, assess the progress of their initiatives and make plans for future actions.
