Civil engineering graduate student Tim Cope was recently named the Midwest Transportation Center’s Student of the Year. Cope was selected from applicants of the four states that comprise the Midwest Regional University Transportation Center.
Mike, Keith, Paula and Larry Sims, recently endowed an MU College of Engineering scholarship in their parents’ honor. The Sims Engineering Scholarship will support engineering students with financial need.
The MU College of Engineering’s first-ever Freshman Interest Group (FIG) Engineering Olympics were held at the College early in December. The event was the final project for the engineering FIG program.
MU Engineering opened its new Women in Engineering Center in 2015. Professor Kate Trauth serves as center director, and Jayme Gardener has been hired as its programs coordinator.
Many graduates enter the work force after earning their degrees. Life post-graduation for Air Force ROTC students, such as Cadet Colonel Ben Riemann, is different. Nearly all ROTC graduates wait for their next assignments, and in Riemann’s case, the computer science senior, will have a month before heading west.
Computer technology was “mysterious and even magic,” to a young Ronny Bazan Antequera. Chasing that magic led him from his hometown of La Paz, Bolivia, to training courses in Japan and India and finally to the brink of his Ph.D. at the University of Missouri.
Doctoral student Andrew Buck and Professor James Keller teamed up to earn Best Student Paper at the 2014 IEEE SSCI event in Orlando, Fla., for the paper “Visualizing Uncertainty with Fuzzy Rose Diagrams.”
Engineering students whose next summer’s to-do list include an internship, co-op or a fulltime job should begin preparing for MU Engineering’s spring career fair, scheduled to take place on the Hearnes Center Concourse from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10.
Construction on Lafferre Hall is on schedule. The first phase of the replacement of the 1935 and 1944 additions is completed. All offices have been moved, and only two labs remain on the second floor.
