Freshmen Admission Requirements

There are two ways students can enter the College of Engineering: Direct Departmental Admissions and the Pre-Engineering Program.

Direct Departmental Admission Requirements

To be directly admitted into their major of choice, students will have to meet the following requirements:

  • A 26 ACT Math Score and a 26 ACT Composite Score

OR

  • A 26 ACT Composite Score and class rank in the top 25%
  • SAT Composite Equivalents 1240-1270; math subscore: 610-620
  • The College of Engineering accepts the ACT or SAT for admissions requirements.

Pre-Engineering Program

If a student does not meet the Direct Departmental Admission Requirements listed above, they are admitted to Mizzou Engineering as a Pre-Engineering Student.

In the Pre Engineering Program, students take a set of core foundational classes for their major, and later apply into their major of choice, typically during sophomore year.

All students regardless of Pre-Engineering or Direct Department Admissions must take the same courses,. If you are a direct departmental admit, you still take the foundational courses.

Equal Opportunities

All incoming students have equal access to resources in the College of Engineering.  Regardless of if they meet the direct departmental admission requirement or not, all students have access to the same Engineering advisors, support staff, tutoring sessions, career fairs, and professional development tools.

Direct Admission into Engineering Departments through the Engineering Achievement Program

High achieving students may receive direct admission (criteria below) into the Engineering Achievement Program (EAP). These students may be eligible for special engineering scholarships and opportunities to interact with College administrators. They will receive invitations to network with faculty who participate in the Undergraduate Research Program, which allows students to work on cutting-edge research projects and offers the potential to fast track an engineering master’s program.

Engineering Achievement Program students also may qualify for acceptance into the MU Honors College, and if all criteria are met upon graduation, they will receive an honors designation and may participate in the honors convocation ceremony. The Honors College option is open to all qualifying freshmen.

Professional development and networking are an integral component of the EAP. Students in the program may immediately apply for the Alumni Mentoring Program to be matched with a recent engineering graduate working in industry who can share insights and lend assistance in making connections.

Transfer Student Admission

Students from other institutions must:

*Students wishing to transfer to IT do not have to have completed Calc 1.

Current MU students must have:

  • 24 credit hours with 2.0 or higher cumulative GPA
  • Good academic standing
  • Calculus I with a C- grade or higher

Core Requirements to be Direct Admitted to Department as a Transfer Student

All transfer students must meet all core curriculum and GPA requirements on the admission requirement table above to directly enter an engineering degree program. Students who meet all criteria for admission to the College but not all departmental criteria will enter the College with an undeclared engineering status until all requirements are met.

Departmental Prerequisites
