Find Your EDGEs combines the expertise areas of both of its founders — engineering for Tojan Rahhal and social science for Miguel Ayllon — in order to provide hands-on training in leadership, diversity and project management skills in a global context.
The Mizzou chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) claimed Most Outstanding Large Organization honors, and Mizzou Students’ Underwater Robotics Foundation (SURF) nabbed the title of Best New Organization at the Chancellor’s Excellence Awards in April.
As part of Engineers Without Borders, the MU chapter traveled to Majé de Chimán, Panama, as part of their continued efforts to provide a reliable water distribution, filtration and storage system for the community there.
The goal of the event is to showcase the field of engineering and science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) careers to girls in grades six through nine and their parents. Women are typically underrepresented in engineering careers, and events such as Daughter Engineering Day seek to help grow the number of women in the field by developing an early interest.
Mizzou NSBE was named Region V Medium Sized Chapter of the Year for chapters with less than 75 members. The chapter also won the National T.O.R.C.H. (Technical Outreach and Community Help) Chapter of the Year for their work in the Columbia community and had two members elected to regional leadership.
