Civil and Environmental Engineering Department

Welcome to Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at Mizzou!

Civil and Environmental Engineers solve problems that directly affect daily life and health. They are vital to our nation’s effort to rebuild and repair the public infrastructure and protect our natural resources. One of engineering’s oldest disciplines, civil engineering focuses on design, construction, and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, thereby strengthening the transportation, environmental, water and waste system that we all rely upon.

Civil and Environmental Engineering is one of six academic departments within the College of Engineering at the University of Missouri.

Established in 1859, this ABET-accredited program is home to more than 400 students and 18 world-class tenured and tenure-track faculty members. The University of Missouri is one of just 34 public institutions to be a member of  the prestigious Association of American Universities (AAU) and is the state’s only public Tier 1 research university.

Civil and Environmental Engineering Faculty

MU’s Civil and Environmental Engineering faculty are at the forefront of groundbreaking research and innovative solutions to the world’s problems. Focusing on a multidisciplinary approach to teaching, they challenge students to explore and collaborate across disciplines.

The Student Experience

Civil and Environmental Engineering students at Mizzou have the unique opportunity to participate in many active student organizations such as American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Chi Epsilon – Honors Society, and Water & Environmental Technologists (WET). Many of them are also undergraduate researchers working closely with CEE faculty and graduate students. Independent and team-based work environments prepare CEE students for their future to become global engineering leaders.

Civil and Environmental Engineering students are prepared for the changing industry by talented and dedicated faculty focused on world-class research and teaching. Engineering topics are selected to provide the necessary technical abilities and skills needed. Freshmen take basic computer and graphics courses. Sophomores and juniors focus on learning environmental fundamentals and engineering science through topics courses. Senior year enables students to specialize in one or more areas of the program or to obtain a broad educational background across the civil engineering discipline. The senior experience culminates with the capstone deign project, a real-life design project completed jointly with practicing engineers from industry and government organizations.
