Capt. Kevin King was born in Frankfurt, Germany, and grew up in Illinois. A graduate of Iowa State University, he was commissioned through the NROTC program in December 1988 and was designated a Naval Flight Officer in February 1990. Additionally, he earned a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College in 2009.
Capt. King’s operational assignments include his initial tour flying with Patrol Squadron (VP) 49, at Naval Air Station Jacksonville. This was followed by a ships company tour aboard USS John C. Stennis (CVN-74), where he served as the Catapult and Arresting Gear Division Officer. Next, he served as the Operations Officer for VP-8 in Brunswick, Maine, and deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Returning to Brunswick in March of 2006, Capt. King reported as Executive Officer of the VP-26 “Tridents” and assumed command in May 2007.
