Engineering Research Support Services

The MU Engineering Research Support Services (ERSS) within the College of Engineering, coordinates all technical aspects within the college, from technology to facility management of six buildings along with overseeing the Machine, Electronics and 3D Printing labs, we strive to meet service requests with courtesy, professionalism, and timeliness. ERSS is staffed with knowledgeable and helpful employees in four areas, with support of highly qualified student workers. We offer expert technical support to EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH, EDUCATIONAL INNOVATION, and ENTREPRENEURIAL PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT and are committed to the continuous enhancement of ERSS services.

In order for students to use the Machine Shop, they must complete the safety training course and take a test. Once a student successfully passes the test, they must download the waiver below, sign it, and return it to the Director of Facilities.

  1. How do I acquire machine shop access?

Once a semester, ETS offers a one hour safety training course/test that the Student must pass in order to receive access.

  1. How do I acquire ID access to labs?

Ask your Professor/Advisor to submit a request form at to acquire 24/7 access into Lafferre Hall.

  1. How do I acquire after hour access into Lafferre Hall and what are the hours the building is open?

Please visit the ETS department at Lafferre Hall C3216 to sign out individual combination locks.

  1. How do I request the services of the 3D printing department?

  1. What are the hours of operation?

The shops are open from 8am to 5pm Monday thru Friday.

  1. What types of machines are in the machine shop?

Standard Mill’s and lathe’s, CNC machine, band saw’s, grinders, water jet cutter, and press.

  1. Does COE provide material for the Student projects done by the machine shop?

We prefer that Faculty, Staff and Students provide their own material for each project. We do have some left-over stock that we are glad to share when available.
