The Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering Department is for students who want to improve operations through both strategic and tactical solutions that reduce costs, improve quality and increasing productivity.

In the IMSE Department, you’ll use math, science and technical skills to solve business, healthcare, manufacturing and environmental challenges. You’ll have opportunities to work alongside talented and dedicated faculty who are conducting cutting-edge research. And you’ll have opportunities outside of the classroom to apply your skills to real-world settings through class projects, internships, and co-ops.

Your IMSE education will prepare you for exciting roles across a variety of industries such as health care, finance, manufacturing and entertainment. In fact, 10 of the top 100 careers in terms of pay and growth are related to industrial engineering, according to CNN Money. Additionally, the Missouri Department of Economic Development listed Industrial Engineering related postions one of the fastest growing occupations in Missouri.

MU IMSE 2020 Annual Review

Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering is one of six academic departments within the College of Engineering at the University of Missouri. This ABET-accredited program is home to more than 150 students and 10 world-class faculty members. The University of Missouri is one of just 34 public institutions to be a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities (AAU) and is the state’s only public Tier 1 research university.
