Biography
Jim Ries is an associate teaching professor in the David L. Payne Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. He also continues to work with Veterans United Home Loans, the nation’s No. 1 VA mortgage lender, where he founded the Software Architecture group. Previously, Ries held technical positions with a variety of companies, including Cerner (now Oracle), EngiNet Technologies, Siemens PLM and Datastorm.
He holds a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Missouri. Ries has taught a wide variety of courses, including Operating Systems, Web Application Development, Object-Oriented Programming, Software Engineering, Parallel Programming for High Performance Computing, and several Data Science courses, as well as every course in Mizzou’s core computer science sequence (CS 1050, 2050, 3050, and 4050). He has an arguably unnatural admiration for the Commodore 64, baseball, Marvel Comics and Dungeons & Dragons.
