Hongbin "Bill" Ma C.W. LaPierre Professor

Hongbin (Bill) Ma, is a C.W. LaPierre Professor in the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department and director of the College of Engineering’s Center for Thermal Management. A fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Ma conducts research in phase-change heat transfer, thermal management, ejector refrigeration and heat pipes. He founded the research consortium for Innovative Thermal Management (ISoTherM Research Consortium) at MU to tackle current and future cooling needs, develop novel low-cost cooling technologies and deliver the research results directly to industry.  He has conducted research projects funded by the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, Intel Corp., Outokumpu, Foxconn, Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, Northrop Grumman, the Office of Naval Research, the Leonard Wood Institute, Rockwell Automation, Gore-Tex, the Department of Education, the MU Research Board and the University Research Council, totaling more than $4 million. Ma has delivered lectures to the thermal engineers at Intel Corp., Rockwell, Lockheed Martin Co., Pall Corp. and General Electric Co. in the field of thermal management. His research work has resulted in more than 120 publications in refereed journals and conference proceedings.
