As Ferris Bueller might have said, life moves pretty fast, engineers. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

The University of Missouri will recognize the achievements and contributions of Mizzou Engineering students by celebrating Engineers’ Week March 6-14. This proud tradition dates back to 1903 and is an example of the university’s laser-focus on preparing champions and educating the leaders of tomorrow.

The theme of this year’s celebration is “St. Patrick’s Day Off,” inspired by John Hughes’ classic 1986 film, and promises tons of fun.

“Engineers’ Week is a great opportunity to show that, not only are we successful in our studies, but we can also put on cool events,” said E-Week Co-Chair Anna Cline, a fourth-year mechanical engineering major from Champaign, Illinois. “It’s an opportunity for all the disciplines in the engineering community to come together.’

“E-Week is a good way to meet new people, get new experiences and throw yourself headfirst into the culture on campus,” said Co-Chair Carter Kramer, a mechanical engineering senior from St. Louis. “That has enriched my experience here a lot.”

Engineers’ Week events

E-Week 2026 will feature a new event March 10: Engineers Tank, a collaboration with the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), in which student organizations compete to creatively reimagine and present common items as new products or solution.

“This format is designed to highlight students’ creativity, innovation and persuasive communication skills,” said Joshua Diaku, NSBE programs chair. “The judges base their decisions on how effectively each team convinces them of the value and purpose of their reimagined item.”

E-Week kicks off with the Student and Alumni Networking Event (March 6), where students can make connections with researchers and industry insiders, learn from their experiences and potentially open career pathways.

The traditional Dome Lighting will take place the evening of March 6. What began as a stunt in 1988 has become not only the largest event of E-Week, but also the most visible and widely recognized symbol of the entire celebration.

The Ada Wilson Green Tea Lecture (March 8), put on by the Society of Women Engineers, honors the first female graduate of the College of Engineering. Students are invited to enjoy light refreshments, connect with one another and hear from industry leaders about opportunities for women in engineering.

The 5K/10K Shamrock Race for Charity (March 8) will raise money for Mobility Worldwide, a non-profit best known for providing versatile, low-tech mobility carts for people in developing countries.

Lab exhibits (March 12) will allow grade school and high school students from Columbia and the surrounding areas to learn more about Mizzou Engineering research in an interactive way.

This year’s Knighting Ceremony (March 13) will be the 120th such event at Mizzou. St. Patrick himself will visit campus to honor graduating seniors and celebrate their achievements.

Engineers’ Week will conclude with the St. Patrick’s Ball (March 14), featuring the crowning of the E-Week Queen and King.
