Mizzou Engineering doctoral student Daniel Hough has been awarded the highly competitive Science, Mathematics and Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship.
Hough is currently studying mechanical engineering, with a focus in energetic materials combustion.
Hough said he was excited to be selected for the scholarship and was looking forward to working with the scientists and engineers at the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division (NAWCWD) in China Lake, California.
The SMART Scholarship-for-Service Program provides full tuition, an annual stipend, a paid summer internship and a dedicated mentor, plus Department of War (DoW) employment upon graduation.
This merit-based opportunity opens doors to over 100 cutting-edge federal sponsoring facilities across the United States, providing scholars hands-on experience in their field to advance critical and emerging technologies for national security initiatives.
During their summer internships, scholars are paired with experienced mentors to enhance their technical expertise for key DoW priorities.
Upon completing his studies, Hough will work full-time at the NAWCWD.
