Master of Science in Industrial Engineering

Gain a deeper understanding of industrial engineering while preparing for leadership positions in industry or a PhD program.

Study and work alongside researchers on the following focus areas:

  • Data Analytics and Operations Research
  • Manufacturing and Production Systems
  • Sustainable Systems Engineering
  • Service and Supply Chain Systems
  • Healthcare and Human-centered Systems

The Master of Science in Industrial Engineering (MS) degree consists of two options: a 30-credit hour research-oriented program requiring a thesis or a 30-credit hour application-oriented program requiring a project report.

The MS Industrial Engineering project option requires three hours of an approved project advised by a faculty member in lieu of a thesis and one additional course.

This program is also offered 100% online through Mizzou Online.

Accelerated BS in Industrial Engineering and MS in Industrial Engineering

The accelerated option will allow students to earn a bachelors and masters degree within five years for eligible students who have completed at least 90 credit hours with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. The academic requirements of the accelerated MS program will require a total of 30 graduate credit hours to graduate. Accepted undergraduate students can take up to 12 hours of graduate level courses that will count toward both the undergraduate and the graduate degrees. Once the student has completed 126 credit hours, (includes at least 12 credit hours of dual enrollment), the corresponding bachelor’s degree will be conferred and they will become graduate students in our MS program to complete the remaining 18 hours of graduate credit.  A minimum of 12 credit hours must be from courses at the 8000 level or above and of those classes 9 credit hours must be IMSE courses. The student’s graduate course GPA must be 3.0 or greater.

Dual MS in Industrial Engineering and MBA Program

The dual Master of Science in Industrial Engineering and Master of Business Administration program is open to highly qualified individuals who hold a baccalaureate degree in industrial engineering from an accredited college or university. It is designed to serve those students who wish to combine the specialized skills of the industrial engineer with the general knowledge of the professional manager. The complex problems facing today’s organizations often require that the engineer’s analytical ability be applied simultaneously with the manager’s integrative perspective. The dual program has been carefully structured to meet the student’s educational goals while minimizing the coursework necessary for obtaining both degrees.

Dual Master of Science in Industrial Engineering & Master of Health Administration

Prepare to manage and lead complex healthcare delivery systems and operations with this dual degree that combines industrial engineering and healthcare management. Take courses in both engineering and health services management to earn an MS in Industrial Engineering and an MHA simultaneously.
