Patrick Earney

Civil and Environmental Engineering

Biography

Patrick Earney is an assistant teaching professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Missouri, where he teaches courses in structural engineering and construction management. He brings over two decades of combined experience in structural engineering practice and academic instruction, specializing in the intersection of design, constructability, and field implementation.

In addition to his faculty role, Earney serves as a structural technical manager with McClure Engineering Company, where he advises on the constructability and economy of structural systems. He also provides expert witness consultation on matters related to construction and design.
Earney’s research explores teaching methods for construction management and engineering, advanced concrete material behavior and characterization of new structural systems.

A licensed Professional Engineer in more than ten states and a structural engineer in several jurisdictions, Earney is active in the ASC, ASCE and the AGC. He previously served as president of the ACI Missouri Chapter and chaired its Student Activities Committee, promoting engagement between academia and industry. Beyond engineering practice, he is involved in community historic preservation, having chaired the City of Columbia Historic Preservation Commission and co-founded COMO Preservation to advance education in historic structure conservation.

Earney holds a PhD, MS and BS in civil engineering and a BS in secondary education in mathematics, all from the University of Missouri–Columbia.
