Xinhua Zhuang, C.W. LaPierre Professor
Electrical Engineering and Computer Science
Xinhua Zhuang is a C.W. LaPierre Professor in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department at the University of Missouri and a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. He serves as director of the Multimedia Communications and Visualization Lab and director of the Missouri China Institute. His research interests lie in image processing, image coding, computer vision and interactive video. Zhuang has contributed chapters to eight books and authored more than 270 publications including 43 IEEE Transaction papers. His work in morphological image analysis and wavelet image coding is particularly notable. He is a recipient of the college’s senior faculty research award. Zhuang served as keynote speaker for IEEE International Conference Audio, Language and Image Processing in 2008, general co-chair for IEEE International Conference Multimedia and Expo in 2004 and 2007 and for IEEE International Workshop Multimedia Signal Processing in 2005. He has received numerous research grants from the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, NATO and NASA, and he has served as a consultant to Siemens, Panasonic, NeoPath, Huawei and NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center.
