Quantum Day
Friday, Oct. 9, 2026 | The State Historical Society of Missouri
Join researchers, industry leaders, students, government partners and the broader community for Mizzou Quantum Day 2026. The program will explore the rapidly evolving quantum technology landscape, the road toward large-scale fault-tolerant quantum computing, emerging applications and security challenges, workforce development and opportunities to prepare Missouri for the quantum era.
MU QIC Quantum Hackathon Fall Fest
Oct. 2-9, 2026
The MU Quantum Innovation Center (QIC) is running a hackathon in October. You will work in a team on one of two challenges. If you are new to quantum computing, the tutorial series runs alongside the hackathon.
Teams will tackle one of two challenges:
- Optimizing hardware and resource allocation on quantum processors
- Building hybrid quantum-classical machine learning pipelines
No quantum experience is required, and the event is free and open to all Mizzou students regardless of major.
A four-part tutorial series beginning Oct. 1 (starter Jupyter notebooks and slides will be provided):
- Quantum computing fundamentals
- Circuit building in Qiskit
- Quantum hardware and transpilation
- Quantum machine learning
The week also features a speaker from IBM, a coffee hour and a quantum videogame lounge, and concludes Oct. 8-9 with project presentations, judging, and the awards ceremony during Mizzou’s Quantum Day.
Faculty QLearning Buddies Spring 2026 Session
The Faculty QLearning Buddies program is a series designed to help our community explore the field of quantum computing. Our mission is to bring together faculty, students, and industry partners to explore quantum computing and have hands-on experience on the IBM quantum machines. The program is tailored for those with no prior experience, guiding participants to become confident practitioners ready to incorporate quantum computing into their research or professional workflows.

Quantum Practitioner’s Workshop
Thursday, Jan. 16, 2025
The MU QIC had it’s first Quantum Practitioner’s Training on Jan. 16. Joined by IBM Quantum’s Americas Lead Victoria Lipinska, this full-day event introduced the QIC and IBM’s Qiskit SDK. A total of 77 in-person and 34 online attendees were able to run “Hello World” on a quantum computer by the end of the day.
