Mizzou Engineering is growing its faculty, bringing in experts from a variety of emerging areas to conduct leading-edge research. From sustainable energy to computer vision, our researchers are poised to create a better world, through engineering.
Mizzou Engineering is expanding its faculty to include experts in emerging and growing fields across the engineering disciplines.
The College has hired more than 10 new faculty members for the third year in a row. This year, high-achieving experts have joined Mizzou to conduct research in the Departments of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.
This faculty growth has increased in volume from the support of the MizzouForward initiative, a transformational effort to strengthen innovation in research. Since it was announced, the College has added 13 new faculty positions through MizzouForward hires.
World-class research with cutting-edge technology
“Researchers are drawn to Mizzou Engineering because of the access to technology,” Hani Salim, Dean’s Fellow supporting the Engineering Research Administration team, said. “We are proud to be home to 12 research centers, with focuses on energy, materials, water, cybersecurity, healthcare, transportation and more.”
Being on a flagship and land grant campus, faculty can collaborate with colleagues in the schools and colleges of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources (CAFNR), Arts and Science (A&S), Business, Education and Human Development, Law and Medicine. Mizzou Engineering is also partnering with Mizzou A&S and Mizzou CAFNR, to open the Center for Energy Innovation, “a groundbreaking initiative and a visionary space where researchers, industry leaders and students will come together to solve the most pressing energy challenges of our time.”
The Missouri Research Reactor (MURR) and the forthcoming NextGen MURR are vital resources for cancer and materials science research. And at NextGen Precision Health, engineers are tackling some of the most pressing health challenges.
These partnerships with centers and other colleges open doors to interdisciplinary research that can change the world.
“We’re also investing in equipment and facilities to benefit researchers,” Salim said. “Last year, we acquired a Nanoscribe Quantum X Shape high-resolution 3D printer, and it has greatly increased our faculty’s ability to quickly produce nano- and meta-materials.”
Achieving excellence together
We are committed to research that has power and purpose. Our legacy is one of forward vision and excellence. And our future is on a path to turning dreams into reality.
