The University of Missouri College of Engineering is proud to announce that all 10 of its pre-existing undergraduate engineering degree programs are now accredited by ABET, the global accreditor of college and university programs in applied and natural science, computing, engineering and engineering technology. This accreditation ensures that the programs meet the high-quality standards necessary to prepare graduates for critical technical fields that drive innovation and promote public safety and welfare.

Of the college’s 10 accredited programs, eight have successfully maintained their previous accreditation, while two programs—biomedical engineering and information technology—are newly accredited. Both newly accredited programs are retroactively effective as of October 1, 2021.

“Maintaining and expanding our ABET accreditation represents a significant achievement for Mizzou Engineering programs,” said Roger Fales, associate dean for academic programs. “It’s just another example of our commitment to producing graduates ready to excel in rapidly evolving technological fields.”

ABET’s voluntary peer-review process focuses on ensuring academic programs meet standards that will produce professionals equipped to enter industries where precision, quality and safety are critical. ABET accreditation evaluates a variety of program components, including curricula, faculty, facilities and institutional support. Reviews are conducted by teams of professionals with expertise in ABET disciplines, drawn from academia, industry and government.

A nonprofit, non-governmental organization, ABET has accredited over 4,500 programs at 895 colleges and universities in 40 countries, ensuring that students receive an education that meets global standards. More information about ABET and its accreditation criteria can be found at https://www.abet.org

Mizzou Engineering’s undergraduate programs are accredited by two different commissions within ABET, the Engineering Accreditation Commission and the Computing Accreditation Commission.
