This month, Mizzou Engineering hosted the Missouri Regional Junior Science and Humanities Symposium (JSHS), for high school students across the state of Missouri to present their research projects to faculty and student judges.

The STEM competition challenges high school students from everywhere to achieve and build the skills that prepare them for college and their careers, according to the JSHS website. While some students presented work virtually because of winter weather, many were able to visit campus to participate.

Regional poster winners include Anna Barnhart from Joplin High School (Medicine & Health/Life & Behavioral Sciences), Lindsey Prince from Lebanon High School (Environmental Sciences) and Christian Cavener from Joplin High School (Engineering & Technology/Math & Computer Science/Chemistry/Biomedical Sciences).

Five regional winners were invited to compete at JSHS Nationals in Albuquerque, New Mexico from May 1-4, 2024.

First place: Saathvik Kannan from Hickman High School

Second place: Varsha Manikandan from Kirksville High School

Third place: Shrivats Manikandan from Kirksville High School

Fourth palce: Colin Stokes from Tuscumbia High School

Fifth place: Simon Wibbenmeyer from Perryville High School

Ankush Vasireddy from Marquette High School and Lindsey Prince from Lebanon High School were named as alternates if any of the five finalists are unable to attend.
