Mizzou Engineers’ Week 2025: A ROAR-ing Success!

March 17, 2025

Mizzou Engineers’ Week 2025: Jurassic Pat featured our favorite traditions, encouraged new friendships and celebrated our favorite people: Mizzou Engineers!

Before ye delve deep into the chronicles herein, a brief parley to illuminate thy path: In reverence of the hallowed revealing in 1903 that St. Patrick was, in sooth, an engineer, we’ve spun this tale in the cadence and charm of times of yore. Fear not, should the words seem knotted and quaint as we relish in the merriment of the hundred and twenty second Week of Engineering!

As the brisk winter winds of March draweth to an end, so too does the momentous occasion of the Week of Engineering. In this year of St. Patrick 2025, the theme of our mirth was Jurassic Pat, a right noble jest in homage to the famed tales of Jurassic Park.

Our merriment didst begin with a great stir of discourse, a gathering of kindred spirits, where present and future engineers did meet in fellowship.

Lo, we did gather the alumni at The Heidelberg for a joyous Happy Hour, where laugher continued to sparkle, and verily, a grand time was had by one and all.

Since first it began, the lighting of the dome hath become a most visible and hallowed tribute to the craft of engineering upon our fair campus. In this year, our new dean didst lay hand upon the switch, and with but a flick, the dome was turned to shine forth in verdant hue.

Verily, the two colleges of Engineering and Arts & Science did unite in fellowship to run the Shamrock Race, a mighty course of 5K and 10K, that they might do goodly works in charity benefitting Mobility Worldwide MO Columbia.

All students were bidden to gather in honor of women in engineering at the Green Tea Lecture and subsequent Luncheon. This gathering was convened to pay tribute unto the seniors soon to depart from our College, their labors well met and their journeys set forth. And lo, this year’s esteemed orator was none other than Reates Curry, BS EE ’84, who did grace the assembly with words of wisdom and insight.

Among the most eagerly awaited happenings of the week is the great spectacle of the Lab Exhibits. In this time, the halls are filled with the laughter and wonder of young scholars, from the smallest of children to those of middle and higher learning, who journey hither to behold the marvels of engineering set about by our most esteemed students.

Throughout the week, the students did partake in many joyous events, among them a scavenger hunt, a day filled with field games, and merry skits accompanied by a grand feast of barbecue. The noble candidates for E-Week King and Queen did grace these gatherings, marked by their shillelaghs, green staffs in hand, and the sashes of their station.

The celebration wouldst not be whole without the Knighting Ceremony and the Grand Kowtow, long-standing traditions of Engineers’ Week. St. Patrick, in his gracious return, did come again to the campus, to honor the steadfast labors of the senior engineering students and to give thanks for their noble achievements within the College of Engineering. And lo, a new fellowship of Knights of St. Patrick were dubbed.

The festivities didst come to their close on the Saturday, the fifteenth day of March, with the grand St. Patrick’s Ball, wherein was held a feast, merrymaking upon the dance floor, and the crowning of the esteemed E-Week Queen and King, Joella Melegrito and Jacob Hudson!

So, as we thus go forth, we wish to share may the Luck of the Shamrock thee, whether in creation of marvels or the solving of grand mysteries, for this week was one for the bold and those who dare to seek great fortune.

Erin go bragh!
