Raymond Kowalik, BS CiE ’85, MS ’99, was inducted in the Mizzou Hall of Fame during Homecoming celebrations Sept. 26.

“Ray Kowalik embodies the idea that real success comes from investing in people,” Mizzou Engineering Dean Marisa Chrysochoou said. “His belief in others has inspired our students and strengthened our College, and we are proud to celebrate his impact.”

Kowalik has built a career defined by leadership, innovation and a commitment to STEM education. After graduating from Mizzou, he joined Burns & McDonnell, one of the largest engineering and architecture companies in the United States, as a structural engineer.

Kowalik became chairman and CEO of Burns & McDonnell in 2017. Under his leadership, the firm grew from 6,300 to 13,500 employee-owners, expanded from 30 to 70 offices worldwide and nearly quadrupled its construction revenue.

An advocate for science, technology, engineering and math education, Kowalik has invested time, resources and expertise into building the next generation of engineers. He regularly returns to campus to share insights with Mizzou Engineering students, encouraging them to step outside their comfort zones, take initiative and trust those around them.

Kowalik is a member of the Civil Engineering Academy of Distinguished Alumni and serves on the Mizzou Engineering Dean’s Advisory Council, the Garney Construction board and as chair of Union Station’s board of directors. He is a director for Saint Luke’s Health System and BJC Health System.
