The MU Engineering Alumni Organization (MUEAO) presented William J. Alkemeyer, BS MAE ’91, with the Citation of Merit at Mizzou Engineering’s annual Awards Banquet March 12.

The award recognizes those who have distinguished themselves in service to the college and profession.

“This university, especially the College of Engineering, gave me the foundation to build my career,” Alkemeyer said. “It gave me the tools I needed to succeed. I very much appreciate everything this university did for me.”

Alkemeyer started Alkemeyer & Associates in 1997. He has been the engineer of record on thousands of projects across the United States, including work in the U.S. House of Representatives, the Pentagon, the Empire State Building, the Federal Reserve in St. Louis and multiple rides at Six Flags.

Alkemeyer has been an active MUEAO member, serving as treasurer, vice president and president. He served as an ambassador for the Dean’s Leadership Circle from 2018 to 2020 and has generously supported Mizzou Engineering and the Energy Innovation Center.

“I encourage all you students, when you graduate — I know life happens: marriage, kids, career — just remember your university,” he said. “It’s what is giving you, brick by brick, those tools to succeed in whatever field you choose.”
