Bart Prorok has been named the chair of the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.
Currently program chair for materials engineering at the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering at Auburn University, Prorok is widely recognized for his scholarship and contributions to the mechanical engineering discipline.
Prorok said he was honored to step into the role.
“This opportunity stood out to me because of the people, the culture and the clear trajectory of the Mizzou College of Engineering,” he said. “There is also a strong sense of purpose and momentum that is both energizing and compelling. I’m excited to contribute at Mizzou and look forward to working with the faculty, staff and students.”
Mizzou Engineering Dean Marisa Chrysochoou said Prorok’s commitment to academic excellence, collaborative leadership and student success made him exceptionally well suited to lead the department.
“The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering plays a vital role in advancing our college’s mission, and I am confident that the department will continue to thrive and build upon its strong foundation under Dr. Prorok’s leadership,” she said.
Chrysochoou also thanked Noah D. Manring for his dedicated service and leadership of the department in an interim capacity. Manring will continue to serve in this role until Prorok officially joins Mizzou Engineering July 1.
