Mizzou Engineering’s Prasad Calyam has been selected to participate in the MU Research Excellence Program (REP), a competitive award that will allow him to recruit and hire a postdoctoral researcher in the field of cybersecurity and cloud computing.

The REP aims to support high-performing faculty and provide specialized training to help postdoctoral fellows advance their careers. The two-year appointment will conclude with the post-doc preparing and submitting a funding proposal.

“This program is set up very nicely because it encourages high-quality research and also adds the outcome of a funding proposal,” Calyam said. “If the proposal is funded, it will launch someone’s faculty career. It benefits both Mizzou and the individual who will be hired in this position.”

Calyam is the Greg L. Gilliom Professor of Cyber Security in electrical engineering and computer science and the Director of the Mizzou Center for Cyber Education, Research and Infrastructure (CERI). The successful candidate will work in the CERI center on emerging issues around cyber defense and cloud computing.

“We kept the research focus broad, but once we have the position filled, we will match the person’s skillset with funded projects,” Calyam said. “The hired scholar will also have opportunities to collaborate across campus with faculty and students and be part of a very vibrant research environment.”

Calyam is one of 18 highly active Mizzou faculty selected to participate in the REP, which is coordinated by the Office of Postdoctoral Education housed within the MU Graduate School.
