Biography
Nicole Hashemi is a professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Missouri. Hashemi’s research interests include microfluidics, advanced manufacturing and materials. She is a recipient of the 2023 NSF Mid-Career Advancement Award for her organ-on-a-chip project. She also received the NSF EAPSI Fellowship, NRC Postdoctoral Fellowship, Big 12 Faculty Fellowship Award and ISU Early Career Engineering Faculty Research Award. Hashemi has been selected as a 2025 Senior Member of the National Academy of Inventors and recognized by both the National Academy of Engineering’s US Frontiers of Engineering and the National Academy of Sciences’ Kavli Frontiers of Science.
Hashemi is a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry. She also serves as an Associate Editor of npj Women’s Health and the ASME Journal of Biomechanical Engineering.
She has served as associate chair of the Neuroscience Graduate Program, where she helped shape interdisciplinary collaboration, student recruitment and curriculum development. In addition, Hashemi has been a member of the leadership team for the ISU Center for Multiphase Flow Research and Education, guiding strategic initiatives and pioneering cross-disciplinary research in fluid dynamics. She also served on the Research Planning and Policy Committee at Iowa State University, contributing her expertise to institution-wide research strategy and policy development.
