Chemical and Biomedical Engineering
Biography
Zhongyu Yang is a MizzouForward hire and an associate professor in the Department of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Missouri. His research is focused on interdisciplinary materials research based on the integration of biologically active macromolecules such as enzymes, polypeptides, and nucleic acids with synthetic nanoscale materials. By varying the involved enzymes and synthetic partners, his group is researching the development of sustainable biomaterials, biocatalysts for pharmaceutics synthesis, delivery vehicles of large biomacromolecular cargos, and cell-free compartment materials for fundamental protein biophysics. Typical synthetic platforms include metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), polymeric self-assemblies, and nanomaterials.
