Research

MU-CELDi research focuses on an integrated approach to both facility and large scale logistics system challenging through modeling, analysis, and intelligent. The research areas can be divided into:

  • Logistics Systems Analysis and Design
  • Supply Chain Modeling
  • Material Flow Design & Improvement
  • Intelligent Systems

A Sample of CELDi Industry/University Collaboration Projects at the University of Missouri

Logistics Systems Analysis and Design
  • An Inventory Replenishment Strategy Using International Shipment Consolidation
    • This project developed models to minimize the total cost (order, transportation and inventory) by consolidating international shipments when a coordinated inventory policy is adopted
  • Global Reverse Logistics Network Design
    • The objective of this project was to specify repair and distribution facility location in order to minimize transportation cost and service time with respect to capability and capacity.
  • Integrated Production and Inventory Logistics Analysis
    • The objective of this project was to develop an optimization-based approach to increase efficiencies in the distribution network of an organization through comprehensive examination of warehouse and delivery locations, inventory volumes, and transportation logistics.
  • Optimizing DOT Winter/Snow Removal Operations
    • This project developed an integrated systems, optimization based routing and capacity approach to winter road maintenance planning decisions in order to reduce cost, while maintaining required service levels.
Supply Chain Modeling
  • Impact of Energy Cost on Supply Chain Design and Operation
    • Supply chain decisions such as supplier and mode selection, routing, inventory profile and load consolidation, are all impacted by energy cost. This project developed a tool to evaluate different supply chain design/operations strategies impact on energy consumption.
  • Repair Forecasting using Bayesian Methods
    • This project developed a methodology to improve demand forecasting based on a Bayesian analysis to revise engineering estimates of repair in light of actual part failures in order to support inventory optimization.
Material Flow Design & Improvement
  • Warehouse Floor Layout Optimization
    • This project developed a user-friendly warehouse floor layout tool that addresses the trade-offs between picking, stocking, shipping and retail stocking costs in order to reduce overall operating cost with respect to order correlation.
  • Integrated Material Flow Analysis
    • This project developed models to address the critical issues within the integrated material flow system design problem so that the structural (infrastructure and equipment) and operational (inventory levels and routing) aspects of the material flow are addressed simultaneously.
