Two Mizzou Engineers ‘tapped’ into honorary secret societies

May 01, 2023

Two Mizzou Engineers were selected to join Mizzou secret societies at Mizzou’s 96th annual Tap Day ceremony on Friday.

Evan Danaher, a mechanical engineering major, was tapped into Mortar Board, a national honor society that recognizes students for scholarship, leadership and service.

Catherine (Cate) McFarland, a chemical engineering major, was tapped into Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK), an honorary leadership society recognizing outstanding students.

Mortar Board and ODK, along with LSV, QEBH, Rollins Society and Mystical Seven, are Mizzou’s six secret societies. They each recognize students for leadership, service and commitment to the University. The identities of inductees are kept secret until the Tap Day ceremony, where they are revealed to the campus community along with faculty and staff who receive “honorary taps.”
