Abdulmateen Adebiyi, a fourth-year computer science PhD student, received the Outstanding Achievement Award from Upsilon Pi Epsilon (UPE), the International Honor Society for the Computing and Information Disciplines.
He earned the award based on his academic record, extra-curricular activities and a recommendation from his UPE advisor.
“I would like to thank Dr. Kamrul Islam, the department chair, Dr. Praveen Rao, my advisor, Dr. Becevic Mirna, my committee member and Dr. Michael Jurczyk, our UPE chapter advisor, for their mentorship and guidance,” Adebiyi said. “This achievement is a testament to their unwavering belief in my potential, for which I am very grateful.”
Adebiyi works under Associate Professor Praveen Rao in the Scalable Data Science (SDS) Lab. His research focuses on advancing disease diagnosis using artificial intelligence (AI) and knowledge graphs. He uses deep learning techniques to assist physicians in triaging skin care patients and analyzes video data from Dermatology ECHO sessions to identify and quantify keywords to aid primary care physicians in pinpointing discussions and treatments.
His PhD study has been funded by the University of Missouri TRIUMPH grant and the Mizzou Telehealth Network.
