“Participation in Show Me Research Week is a great opportunity to present our lab’s work and share my research,” Manob Sarker, a Show Me Research Week presenter, said. “It is an excellent platform to communicate and exchange ideas with peers from diverse academic backgrounds. Beyond academic benefits, the experience has helped me enhance my communication skills and build confidence in professional settings.”

Sarker is a PhD student in biological engineering being advised by Teng Teeh Lim, who specializes in air quality and nutrient management in the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources. Sarker’s research focuses on soil health with agricultural management practices.

“Soil health is crucial for sustainable crop production, and it is strongly influenced by management practices,” he said. “Specifically, I study the effects of manure application and cover cropping on soil properties and crop yield under field conditions. This research will enhance our understanding of sustainable farming practices to improve soil quality and agricultural productivity.”

Other engineering research projects focus on topics from all interdisciplinary aspects of engineering, including cyber threats to clean energy, using artificial intelligence in health care, new metamaterials, real-time foodborne pathogen detection and more.

In addition to poster sessions, event attendees can also attend lectures, visual art and design showcases, and student researcher panels.
