Nobody move a muscle… it’s almost Engineers’ Week!

E-Week is one of the longest-standing traditions at Mizzou, predating even Homecoming. The week commemorates Mizzou Engineers’ discovery in 1903 that St. Patrick was an engineer.

Engineers’ Week is a celebration of all things engineering (click here to learn more about the history of E-Week). E-Week is organized by St. Pat’s Board and Engineers’ Club, which are chaired this year by Ethan Anderson and Lilly Orskog.

“It’s a great way to see how much engineers pride themselves in the work that they do,” Orskog said. “It builds a bond between all engineering students. You realize that we all are trying to achieve the same goals: to get our degrees and make the world a better place.

Mizzou students, faculty, staff and alumni will come together at events, beginning with the Dome Lighting. Other E-Week events include the E-Week Student and Alumni Networking Event, a Hot Dog Banquet, Lab Exhibits, a Knighting Ceremony and St. Patrick’s Ball.

Welcome to Jurassic Pat

The celebration may be a month away, but the co-chairs are planning to make E-Week 2025: Jurassic Pat, in the words of Dr. Ellie Sattler, without a doubt, the most amazing thing they have ever seen in their entire lives.

This year’s theme has been a smash hit within the planning committees. Movie lovers and dinosaur enthusiasts alike can reminisce about their introduction to the Jurassic Park movie franchise while celebrating their hard work and future engineering careers.

E-Week 2025 will debut the Celtic Games, the field day event building on informal traditions to create a new cornerstone of the celebration.

“Everyone can get together and have good time with friendly competitions,” Anderson said. “We’re going to have two teams competing in different events, including the classic tug-of-war, egg races and capture the flag.”

The celebration will also emphasize philanthropy. In addition to the 5K/10K Shamrock Race for Charity, some of this year’s events will host Tiger Pantry donation stations. Event goers can bring canned and non-perishable food and hygiene items to the Dome Lighting, Road Rally, Skits & BBQ and Celtic Games. Donations will also be accepted at the merch sales table in Lafferre Hall beginning March 3.

“Tiger Pantry is a great way for students who lack resources to get the food they need to fuel their brains and help them excel in their classes,” Orskog said.

A T-rexcellent time awaits

These new additions are joining a lineup of classic E-Week events that have been enjoyed by Mizzou Engineers for over 120 years. This year marks the 119th Knighting Ceremony, during which seniors are dubbed knights of St. Patrick.

“My favorite Engineers’ Week memory is my first Dome Lighting,” Anderson said. “Everyone on my floor was studying engineering. We all heard about it and decided to go together. It was really cool hanging out with other engineering students, getting cocoa mugs and watching the ceremony.”

Orskog agreed.

“Even though it was pouring rain and super cold out, it was amazing watching that dome light up green,” she said. “But my favorite E-Week event is Skits & BBQ. I enjoy watching the skits, and the food is pretty good. It’s a great night of fun and laughter.”

Anderson says his favorite event is Lab Exhibits, when K-12 students from across Missouri travel to campus to discover engineering on tours led by Mizzou student volunteers. Last year, over 700 K-12 students visited Lafferre Hall for the event.

Anderson and Orskog encourage all students, regardless of major, to attend Engineers’ Week events.

“Even if you are a little bit nervous or haven’t participated in E-Week before, go ahead and go to one of the events,” Orskog said. “Come to Dome Lighting. You’ll never know what it’s like until you experience it.”
