The American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) has announced the induction of Mizzou Engineering researchers Nicole N. Hashemi and Raghuraman Kannan to its College of Fellows.
College membership honors those who have made outstanding contributions to engineering and medicine research, practice, or education and to the pioneering of new and developing fields of technology, making major advancements in traditional fields of medical and biological engineering or developing/implementing innovative approaches to bioengineering education.
Hashemi is a professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. She was nominated, reviewed and elected by peers and members of the College of Fellows for pioneering work in microfluidics of biological systems, for microfluidic cytometry for characterization of plankton, and for international equity leadership.
Kannan is a professor of radiology with a joint appointment in the Department of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering. The College of Fellows recognized his pioneering contributions in smart biomaterials for health care delivery.

A formal induction ceremony was held during the AIMBE Annual Event April 13 in Arlington, Virginia. Hashemi and Kannan were inducted along with 175 colleagues who make up the AIMBE College of Fellows Class of 2026.
