Call for Proposals: Mizzou Quantum Innovation Center Summer Internship Program

The Mizzou Quantum Innovation Center (QIC), in cooperation with the College of Engineering and the College of Arts & Sciences, is pleased to announce its inaugural summer internship program, aimed at fostering innovative quantum research activities for both students and their faculty mentors.

This competitive program offers up to 14 summer internships—seven positions for graduate students and seven for undergraduate students—spanning from June through August.

Program Highlights
  • Stipend: Participants will be compensated at $7,500 for Graduate Research Assistants (GRA) and at $2,500 Undergraduate Research Assistants.
  • Duration: Early June – late August (three-month summer term).
  • Research Presentation: Interns are required to present their research outcomes during the Mizzou Quantum Day
Proposal Submission Guidelines

Interested student-mentor teams must collaboratively submit a white paper of up to three pages (0.5” margin, single space, Arial 11 font, references included) describing a summer research project. Proposals should clearly articulate:

  • Research objectives and their relevance to quantum innovation.
  • Methodology and utilization of QIC resources.
  • Anticipated outcomes, with a clear pathway to publications and externally funded future projects.
  • Defined roles of the student and mentor within the project.
Eligibility
  • Open to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled at MU.
  • Each proposal must have clear endorsement and co-authorship by the faculty mentor who will supervise the internship.
Submission Procedure

Submit your white paper electronically in PDF, co-signed by both student applicant and faculty mentor.

Review Criteria

White papers will be reviewed and scored based on:

  • Scientific merit and innovative potential.
  • Feasibility within the proposed summer time frame.
  • Clear articulation of future externally funded project pathways.
  • Effective engagement and mentoring plan.
