Mizzou Engineering Professor Kevin Gillis has been a mentor for the local high school robotics organization since its foundation in 2011.
About 400 fourth and fifth graders participated in this year’s Robotics Design Challenge, representing 26 schools from across Missouri.
The team recently qualified for the FIRST Championship in April in Houston by finishing in the semifinals of the Rocket City Regional in Huntsville, Ala.
A quartet of participants from the Army Ants FIRST Robotics high school team, hosted by Mizzou Engineering, were selected as National Merit semifinalists.
