ABET Program Objectives & Outcomes (BS CE)

Mission

To prepare Computer Engineering graduates for productive engineering careers in industry, government service or engineering education characterized by continual professional growth.

Program Educational Objectives

Program Educational Objectives are broad statements that describe the career and professional accomplishments that the program is preparing graduates to achieve within a few years of graduation.  Effective May 1, 2012, the Program Educational Objectives of the undergraduate program in Computer Engineering at MU are to nurture graduates who:

1. Are successful graduates of our program, as evidenced by:

  • Sustained employment
  • Job satisfaction
  • Contributions towards the success of one’s employer
  • Successful participation on engineering teams
  • Success at identifying and solving real-world problems
  • Success at handling increasing responsibilities
  • Receipt of job-related awards
  • Career advancement
  • Progress toward professional licensure or toward an advanced degree
  • Engagement in entrepreneurial activities

2. Analyze and design technical or engineering systems successfully, as evidenced by:

  • Submission of patent applications or invention disclosures
  • Successful development and/or launch of new products and/or processes
  • Success in sustaining or improving products, processes, or systems
  • Success in testing and failure analysis

3. Engage successfully in professional communication, as evidenced by:

  • Publication of a technical article
  • Presentation of a paper at a professional meeting or conference
  • Submission and/or presentation of engineering reports, white papers, and proposals to management, customers, and partners
  • Conducting training programs

4. Participate productively in professional activities, as evidenced by:

  • Membership in professional societies
  • Activity in professional societies and participation at professional conferences and meetings
  • Participation in continuing education
  • Participation in mentoring and community involvement
