Mizzou Engineering celebrates graduates, confers more than 430 degrees at spring commencement

May 13, 2024

More than 430 students graduated from Mizzou Engineering this past weekend. On Friday, May 10, Interim Dean Praveen Edara joined UM System President Mun Y. Choi and other college leadership to confer degrees at Mizzou Arena.

After President Choi addressed the graduates and their families, Edara encouraged students to see themselves the way others see them, and to be the person they want others to see.

“Make such an impact on people that they remember you for life,” he said. “Be kind. Be on time. Do the right thing. And be the engineer the public relies on… People may take for granted the engineering all around them. But everyone puts trust in these systems every day. They put trust in us, as engineers, every day. It’s a big responsibility. But that’s what you’ve learned at Mizzou.”

Edara also reminded students tofr defer to Mizzou’s four pillars of responsibility, respect, discovery and excellence if they ever begin to doubt themselves.

“This afternoon, I see determined, competent and prepared professionals who are ready to change the world,” Edara said. “I see Mizzou Made engineers.”
