The Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need (GAANN) is a fellowship program through the U.S. Department of Education that helps institutions fund talented, doctorate-seeking students who demonstrate a need for financial assistance. The University of Missouri College of Engineering ISE Department GAANN Fellowship seeks to remedy a shortage of college professors by assisting ISE PhD students interested in careers in academia.
About the Grants
- Grants are renewable for up to three years, based on good academic standing. The ISE Department will fund fellows for up to an additional two years as graduate teaching or research assistants.
- Each student receives a stipend (up to $34,000 per year) in addition to a waiver of tuition and fees. Students may not otherwise be employed.
- Students will receive additional training in college teaching.
Minimum Requirements
- Must be a U.S. citizen or legal resident
- Must demonstrate a need for financial support
- Must be an incoming or current University of Missouri College of Engineering student seeking a doctoral degree from the IMSE department.
