Students Gain Industry Experience During Internships With Siemens Healthineers

Five graduate students from the electrical engineering and computer science department have wrapped up summer internships with Siemens Healthineers, where they’ve applied deep learning methods to research and development in healthcare. As part of the strategic alliance between Mizzou and Siemens Healthineers, these students were selectively chosen to intern with the company.

Schuster has always been fascinated by the way things work. He likes to tinker with stuff. And he learns best by doing. So when he discovered the Information Technology (IT) Program at Mizzou Engineering, it was a perfect fit.

Lagermann Puts Electrical Engineering Courses to Work at Garmin

When Isaac Lagermann ’21 began an internship at Garmin earlier this month, he immediately put his electrical engineering courses to work. Lagermann is working at an aircraft hanger just outside the company's headquarters in Kansas City. There, he is creating diagrams and instructions to help buyers install Garmin products in airplanes.

Senior Melinda Groves spent this past summer interning at one of the nation’s most iconic federal agencies: NASA. Working as a mechanical engineering intern, Groves was based at the NASA John Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio, as part of the Icing Research group.

There’s a reason why Scanlan has attended eight career fairs: The exposure is invaluable. Employers "are seeing hundreds, if not thousands, of applications. You can’t let them stumble upon you. You really have to be like, ‘No, I’m the one you’re hiring,’” he said.
