Engineering spans into almost every part of one’s daily life. For senior Sarah Thompson, this includes being a student-athlete on the Mizzou swim team. The biological engineering major enjoys learning the science behind being a better swimmer, including biology, fluid mechanics and materials science.

From Mizzou to Mars: Engineering Alumnus Works on Mars Ascent Vehicle

A Mizzou Engineer’s digital fingerprints will be on the Mars Ascent Vehicle when it makes its historic voyage to the Red Planet in 2026. Christopher Whetsel ’19, works at NASA and has been involved in the program both on the software engineering and project management side.

Leah Albietz is on the fast track, whether in or out of her race car. Albietz, BS ME ’20, from Wentzville, MO, went beyond just engine building. At age 13, she started drag racing and joined the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA).

Undergraduates Conduct Research Through Mizzou REU

They analyzed data from medical records. Studied the impact of virtual learning environments. And came up with ways to better detect fake videos. In the end, participants of this year’s Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program at Mizzou Engineering gained a deeper appreciation of research and how it applies to everyday life
